Breeze felt a wave of jealousy wash over her as Winter hugged Zestari. This zebra couldn't be bad at all if she was with Happy before, and if she was friends with Winter...
Breeze kept herself quiet, even though she wanted to see Winter, too. But what would the beautiful mare think of somepony like her now?
Argh, it was all too confusing. The white mare hissed at herself, putting a hoof to her mouth. What would Winter think of THAT, Breeze's mouth?
Ugh, Breeze's mouth. She hated it so much.
Breeze knew that Zestari couldn't be bad at all, possibly friend material, someone Breeze would have been able to trust. For a moment, she regretted all of the decisions that led her to the Kahns, but it was her own fault, and she was..... happy where she was. She wasn't sure if happy was the right word. Satisfied, maybe?
If only she was still a kind and caring mare with full on, unhidden emotions.

She resisted the incredibly strong urge to go up and talk to Winter. If she saw her later, and if Winter was the first to say something, that was one thing, but....

At Winter’s words, Zestari’s ears folded back a little sadly, as Winter made it clear that there was always the possibility that something tragic might happen and she hugged her friend a little tighter “Try and look after yourself Winter, and remember there are ponies here who are doing everything they can to make things better and care about you.”

She stepped back to let Winter re-join her other group members, before turning back to the hospital, her face a little more tired and sad than she’d like.

“Okay Grace, where do we start?”

Winter didn't say another word. She didn't need to as the last look she gave to her friend was enough to convey the message of care and the want to see each other after all this was over. She took a deep breath before joining with the rest of the Vityaz, leaving the tent to embark upon their first mission assignment.

The next few hours were spent doing the mind numbing rounds of the MASH tent. Checking patient's blood pressure, mineral levels, and other various vitals wasn't exciting, but it was necessary. Grace chatted all the while. Talking about growing up in a warzone, how she decided to be a doctor instead of a soldier, and the best recipes for blackberry cobbler. Around one in the morning things got exciting, just like always.

A dozen dying soldiers were carted in by their squadmates. Some suffered gruesome plasma burns, some were riddled from shrapnel, but two stood out. A dark blue pegasus, still smoking from the plasma that had shot him out of the sky, clung weakly to life. The other was a gryphon that just screamed raider. The soldier that escorted the pair into the tent simply said 'Milk Run' to Grace as he signed them into the MASH.

"Alright ponies, let's get to work." Grace said in a sing song voice as she floated a surgical mask to his face. "Zestari be a dear and help that pegasus, I can't really spare any of our surgeons to save your friends, sadly. I can't say that many would see why we're helping anypony with wings either. The rest of you help where you can."

Violet wandered the tent, Liz following behind her, causally looking through the various equipment and medical supplies the MASH tent had to offer. If anyone questioned what she was doing, she'd say something along the lines of "Oh, I'm taking a mental inventory of all of your supplies, seeing where everything is so I can get to it fast and easy, and mentally devising solutions to various injures and such given the supplies that are available. Need to make sure any hurt ponies that come in can get fixed up lickety split!" That usually got ponies to leave her to her devices, and before long she had the location of all the of the tents medical supplies cataloged in her head.

And just in time too, as a few minutes later injured soldiers, about a dozen, where wheeled in. One whom she recognized. 'Light!' She hadn't seen him since Stable 113, and he wasn't looking too good. 'Severe plasma burn along...' Her mind listed off the injury inflicted onto the pegasi, she was just about ready to jump in and help him, but Grace got that nice zebra lady, Zestari her name was, to help him instead. Well, as long as she knew what she was doing, he should be fine then.

Violet turned her attention to the others, picking out one from the bunch to help herself. The young unicorn was soon on her hooves and darted through the crowd, somehow managing not to bump anypony, and in a flash she was at the side of a large griffon, a wide grin on her face as her eyes glowed, looking over the griffon.

"Hello Mr. Griffon, my name's Violet! I'll be your doctor for this evening!" she said with a smile as Liz wandered back behind her, merely looking at the griffon with a curious look in her eyes.

Cuppa slowly walked around with the rest of the MASH team, checking all these things she had rarely done in her time as a nurse, granted she was better at medicine now.. So these things were probably meant to be done now.

As two were brought in, a pegasus and a griffon, Cuppa had already decided which she'd rather tend to, so she trotted over alongside Lightning Flash's bed. "Ah'll give ya'll a helping hoof, Zestari." She said after sending a foul glare Grace's way, how could somepony, a doctor no less, treat any patient like that. She suddenly didn't want to be here anymore, not when even the medical ponies she was working for didn't seem to like pegasi.

Zestari jumped in alarm when injured bodies were brought in. Her medical skill had come about mostly in the thick of action, or under simpler mentor – apprentice - patient type situations. This big dynamic hospital was going to take some getting used to. It was late in the morning and things were quiet. Zesty was checking some charts when the word quickly made it to her that injured ponies were coming in, and she watched open eyed as ponies were brought in; fresh casualties of the war in this forsaken city.

She stepped closer to Grace as the injured ponies were being looked at for triage purposes. She spotted the familiar rich blue of Flash as he was placed down, and a quick glance told her he was in bad shape.

She wasn’t sure whether Grace had seen her panicked eyes when she spotted Flash, or was genuinely dismissive of pegasi, but Zesty was more than happy to go and tend to her fallen friend. Trotting over quickly she began to look him over. He was very badly burned and treatment was going to be slow and painful.

She nodded at Cuppa, “I’d like that very much. First, I think we’ll need to get him out of this armour so we can get a clear view of what we’re dealing with. You lift him with your magic; and I’ll remove the garment as carefully as I can…”

With some thought, Breeze saw that most ponies were going toward Flash, so she decided that it would be best to divide the attention of the ponies somewhat fairly, and went to go join Violet's side by Bonehead.

While the volunteer medics got to work tending to their charges, a third casualty from Brass' mission in Milk Run was wheeled in. This one a powder blue pegasus with plasma burns and a stab wound in her chest. The mare was brought to Grace, who was more than a little busy pulling shrapnel out of a patient. Grace gave the mare one look and took up her marker, writing a black x.

"Don't have time to deal with volunteers." she muttered to herself.

Violet quickly and efficiently catalogued the griffon's injures and categorized them, organizing them based on severity and prioritizing. The Plasma Burns obviously needed to be death with first, everything else was non-fatal and could be dealt with when the patient wasn't in danger of dying.

"Alrighty!" exclaimed Violet. "We need to take care of these plasma burns here first, the rest of his injuries are pretty ouchy, but these are the worse! Once we take care of these, we can deal with the less severe ones."

Moving like a blur, Violet dashed over to the medical supplies and started gathering what she'd need to treat plasma burns. She moved quickly and effectively, due to already memorizing the locations of all the supplies beforehoof.

Having lifted Flash up off of the table enough for Zestari to get his clothing off, Cuppa started checking him over for injuries, just about mortified by the state he was in, she looked to the zebra quickly.

"Right, first things first, we got's ta fix this fractured skull, ah dun wanna chance it bleedin' out, it shouldn't be too hard... Ah'm sure ah can fix it." She said as she got to work, floating up some forceps so she could widen the gash around the fracture to allow her to remove the pieces of bone with her magic, it was safer for her to do this, as she could get to the pieces easier.

"Ah'm gonna need those cleaned so ah can put the pieces back in, ah'll get some medical bandages so that the bone is fixed after ah put the pieces back in. Also, get a mesh ta cover up the bone fragments once we put 'em back in, so they dun fall out." Cuppa said to the zebra as she tenderly started to dab and clean around the fractured area of the skull with an absorbent cotton pad, taking care in each and every action she made, this pony's life was on the line and she didn't want to explain that he died, not if he could be saved... Hopefully whilst she was doing this, Zestari would get the bone fragments put into some form of medicinal solution that would clean them.

Once the skull and the fragments were cleaned, including using a few extra pads to soak up the blood from the pegasus' external head wound, Cuppa would float a few medical bandages over and wait for Zestari to let her know the fragments were ready. Then she'd float the fragments back into their original places and eased the mesh into place, fastening it into place and sewing up the external wound before wrapping Lightning's head in a set of medical bandages, which would repair the damaged skull and the wound, the stitches mostly in place to ensure the wound stayed shut.

(Doing it all there and then, so that Zesty can post in assisting when she's ready and we don't have to back and forth this major one.)

Zestari agreed with Cuppa, nodding her head rapidly, as the brown unicorn gave her diagnosis and which injury to address first. “I agree. The skull is certainly the most critical injury here.”

As Cuppa began to work on making the wound on Flash’s head more accessible, Zestari quickly positioned his wing so that it would easier to check, splint and bandage, and did similar with his fetlock.

Nodding at Cuppa, after she had removed the pieces of bone from the fracture, Zestari went to find some antiseptic fluid and surgical mesh. After asking an orderly for what she sought, she got what was required and turned to head back to Cuppa across the busy MASH.

Taking a moment to look about as she headed back, she stopped suddenly, noticing the placed-to-the-side powder blue Pegasus, the black cross standing out like a damning symbol. She took a step closer. “S… Sky?!” She took another step towards her. “Oh no!” She turned and practically ran back to Cuppa and quickly placed the pieces of bone in the anti-septic fluid before placing the mesh next to the container.

“I’m sorry Cuppa. I just saw Sky and I need to help her and I hope it will be okay. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She turned without waiting for a repsonse and quickly raced back over to Sky.

Finding some clear space, she moved the trolley Sky was on and took a moment to see how bad the injuries were and whether she could do something.

She found herself apologising to Sky over and over under her breath. The stab wound needed to be checked first. She needed to make sure that nothing vital was perforated or that would need to be stitched or sealed before addressing anything else. Grabbing an unattended tray of tools she began to clean the blood around the wound and investigate whether anything deeper was damaged.

Cuppa, having noticed Flash's temperature start raising as she continued to work, frowned a little and thought for a second. He'd need fluids, so she quickly went to get an IV for him, which was a blend of anti-biotics and saline solution, just in case Flash's condition worsened, plus this would help keep him hydrated whilst stuck in bed with a high temperature.

After that, she would set a brace around Flash's right fetlock to set it in place and prevent it from being jostled and potentially damaged any worse, then setting up some style of splint for Flash's wing, ensuring it was in place with her magic as she set it up.

As an after thought, due to all the pain that Flash would end up feeling when he woke up, what with the damaged leg and wing, Cuppa would get some med-x to help dull all the pain he'd end up feeling when he awoke.

Once Zestari had determined that Sky’s injury wasn’t likely to be life threatening and now that she was properly addressed, rather than being placed aside, she connected her to a heart monitor and IV, so that in the unlikely case that Something was amiss that Zestari couldn’t see, she’d hopefully be aware.

Satisfied that Sky would be okay for the moment and that there were other patients in far greater need of attention, she turned and quickly returned to assist Cuppa with Flash, and frowned at the elevated temperature. “We’re going to need something for this. It could indicate his brain is swelling due to the trauma.” She frowned, wracking her memory of what might help. Her mind kept going to alchemical solutions, but she didn’t have the time or equipment to look into that at the moment, so she tried to focus on purely medical solutions. After all the hospital seemed very well equipped. She needed to find some steroids or something similar to help things. Hopefully that would bring things back under control, if not, they might have to reopen the wound and see if something more severe was amiss.

Quickly scooting off through the busy MASH, she sought out what she required, and after harshly asking a nurse, found a syringe containing the steroids which could help with the injury Flash had. She turned and sped back to Flash and connected the syringe to the IV that Cuppa had already set-up moments ago.

Violet soon returned to Gentle Breeze and Bonehead, a jar of Silvadene balanced on her head, and the NSAID and Med X floating behind her. She dropped the jar on a nearby table and opened it up with a flick of her magic, before setting down the Med-X and hooking up the IV bag of NSAID to a stand.

"Alrighty, I'm going to start applying this cream to these nasty plasma burns, and stick some med-x into him to get rid that pain when he wakes up. I'll need you, to get him hooked up to that bag of anti-inflammatory drugs to get rid of any nasty swelling that these burns may caused. Don't give him too much yet though, we can't tell how bad the swelling is yet." she ordered Gentle Breeze before she started to apply the cream.

[Apply the cream to the burns and inject med-x to relieve the pain.]

Flash's wing was properly splinted and with time would be back in order without much worry. However, his fetlock was only aggravated by the splint, making the unconscious pony twitch with pain. Luckily Zestari's treatment did rapidly bring down his fever, leaving the grievously injured pegasus stable but far from healed.

    ------------------------------------------

Violet's treatment didn't help with the burns, the ointment application too little. However the gryphon didn't feel the horrifying pain thanks to the med x she'd shot him up with.

Having Zestari quickly butt in to administer help to Flash's afflictions. She didn't really know what to say about it, after Zestari having rushed off to attend to Sky instead. But if she was helping again, she'd happily accept it. "Umm... If ya'll are here to stay an' help Flash, can ya keep his hoof raised whilst ah get an anti-inflammatory fer Flash's burns?" She asked, waiting for an answer before going off to find some anti-inflammatories, of course, she could just use the snow from outside, but that wasn't a sanitary idea. So she just went and administered the drug to help with Flash's plasma burns.

(Med 68, administering an anti-inflammatory drug. Also adding Med-x to Flash's IV to dull the pain when he wakes up.)

Gentle Breeze heeded Violet's command, as there wasn't much else to be done anyway. She got the anti-inflammatory drugs and administered a small dose.

(Med 71, administering a small dose of an anti-inflammatory drug to Bonehead.)

Bonehead was lucky enough to get a pair of capable doctors and was out of the woods. All that remained was his fracture and the minor cuts along his chest. He wouldn't be moving too fast but he would live.

    -------------------------

Flash was another story. The anti-inflamatories he was given were too little too late as he rapidly began swelling from the agitation of major surgery and severe burns. Luckily he wouldn't be feeling much of it the excruciating pain his nerves would be sending to his brain thanks to the unholy amounts of med-x he was shot up with.

At this point there was little that could be done to heal his burns, only more anti inflamatories and water. He was stable though, if not on the road to recovery.

    ------------------------------

Sky was the least fortunate of all, suffering an unforeseeable reaction to one of the antibiotics in her IV and crashing before anyone could get to her. Thanks to Zestari's efforts nopony knew she'd been given the X and an orderly restabilized the now comatose patient.

Breeze got some disinfectant and began cleaning the cuts on Bonehead's body. She knew well that any cuts could become infected and then create even worse problems later on.

    (Med 71, disinfect Bonehead's cuts)

With his cuts disinfected Bonehead's operations were almost complete. All that remained before the gryphon could be let to rest was his fractured leg.

Zestari frowned at the patients in various state of distress in the MASH. She had nodded at Cuppa and had assisted her with Flash and his burns. After they had dealt with his burns in the best manner they were able, she looked about to see how the rest of the medical staff were handling things. She imagined that this was a fairly regular occurrence for Grace and the other staff, something that seemed, to Zestari at least, awful to comprehend.

At least things were calming down, the immediate emergency was over and this gave Zestari time to consider trying to go and prepare some alchemical items that might come in use here in the MASH.

As she pondered things, she went to Sky. She said nothing to the staff about Sky’s initial 'grading' and predicament, and instead just double checked the orderly’s effort; there wasn’t much that could be done for Sky until she came out of her coma, and so resting besides the pegasus mare, occupied her mind with what sort of items she might create.

Bone head slowly opened his eyes, He was still seething with anger. "I'm going to gut that son of a..." Suddenly the griffin realized he was no longer lying in the snow of the battlefield but instead on a medical table, surrounded by ponies. Bone's mind was racing, the last time he was tied to a table like this he had just met cascade, and at the time the zebra "cook" was a lot more hostile than he is today.

He tried to lash out at the nearest pony but found himself unable to do so, he couldn't move his arm, in fact he couldn't feel anything below his chest. Bone looked to what he believed to be his torturers, a violet unicorn and a white earth pony and demanded answers from them. "Where am I? What have you done to me?" Then bone saw the violet pony had glowing eyes. "By the great egg, what the hell are you?"
