Crackle eagerly accepted the weapon. He slung the bandoleer over one shoulder, adjusting the buckle slightly. He broke open the barrel, loaded a grenade from the bandoleer, and flipped the gun closed with a flick of his wrist. He rose up onto his hind legs using his wings for balance and raised the weapon to his shoulder, sighting down the barrel. The pose was quite similar to that of a zebra when using a weapon without a mouth bit. After a couple seconds, Crackle pulled the trigger and the Grenade rifle discharged with a 'Thoomp!' A moment later, a scraggly dead tree a little ways off disintegrated into an explosion of splinters. The griffin admired his talonwork for a moment, then looked down at he new toy, grinning. "Thanks Collateral!" He popped open the breech again, tossing away the spent shell. "I think I have a new favorite weapon! It Just needs one final touch..."

Reaching into one of his many pouches, he withdrew a small tin can. Popping the lid off, Crackle dipped his talon inside. When he withdrew it, there were a few drops of red paint on the tips. He dragged his talon across the emblem painted on the barrel, leaving a trio of diagonal slashes that matched the ones on his armour. He set the launcher down, waiting for the paint to dry, and wiped his talon off on a rag. "Alright, lets see what I can do for you..." He pulled out the scavenged bipod, some tools, and some scrap metal and sat down with Collat's rifle, tinkering with it until the group was ready to go.

Jasmine held the sobbing filly in her arms as she cried, patting her on the shoulder as her team mates went off to check out the area. She backed away slightly from the filly and held the filly's face with her hooves gently on her cheeks. She smiled as she attempted to reassure the filly.

"It'th ok little one, I promithe that nothing will happen to you! I'm not going to thend you to Thtableton by yourthelf, and if anypony cometh to bother you- you have all of uth to protect you!"

Jasmine realized that this may do little to console the foal as her entire caravan had been wiped out by ghouls, but it was all she could offer her. Jas wiped away the foal's tears with the fur on the back of her wrist. She spent most of her time trying to calm the little one down, and gain her trust. She couldn't help but feel her heart ache for the filly. She was in a strange new place, probably had no clue where she was, nor where she was going. Aside from that, little did she know her group was actually on a mission to kill "zombies".

As Jasmine spent time with the foal trying to connect with her and take her mind off of her recent tragedy, Crackle called out to her and reminded her of the task at hand. Jasmine turned toward the group leader and nodded before returning her attention to the filly.

"Lithten, I know you're thcarred right now... But I need you to do me a favor and be a tough girl. You and me are going to get through thith jutht fine- I'm going to make thure of it. We're thtrong and can get through anything, tho let'th show the world what we're made of!" Jasmine grinned as she tried to coax the foal into following her. She stayed close to the filly's side as she tried to strike small talk to divert the foals attention away from their current situation.

"Tho thweetheart, what'th your name anywayth? I'm Jathmine in cathe you didn't catch that before."

Thanks to Jasmines attention, the filly calmed down somewhat. Sniffling a bit, she looked up at Jasmine with wide, haunted eyes. "M-my name's Cinnamon Spice..." She trailed off, looking away and making no move to get up. Although she was no longer sobbing, the filly continued to cry, weeping soundlessly for her lost family and friends. It was clear she had been traumatized by the massacre of everypony she knew, and was likely to be deeply scarred...

Jasmine fought off the sensation to cry herself. She knew what it felt like to lose someone you cared about, but couldn't even begin what it would feel like to loose everyone that you knew. Despite her desire to erase or take on this filly's pain, she was helpless to help the foal. No matter how much she hugged or reassured the filly, her friends and family were dead. On some level, Jasmine realized that she may be jumping to conclusions. Maybe she still had a relative alive else where, or she could've already been orphaned by this cruel world. If she was alone, Jas may have found herself a new little sister.

"Thinnamon, what a lovely name! Why don't you tell me a little bit about your thelf thweet heart?" Jasmine held the filly close to her and tried to raise her to her hooves. She leaned over to keep eye contact with the foal, trying to maintain her attention. "Can you walk? I can carry you if you're too tired..."

    This isn't going anywhere fast....

Collateral slowly walked to the filly and Jasmine, trying to smile in an attempt to look as not-menacing he possibly could, although his try at a smile was a fruitless one. He crouched down and brushed her hair lightly. "Hey... hey..." Turning her head towards him, he wiped a few tears from her face.

"Listen... We've all had tough incidences like these. Not be be rude, but something like this was bound to happen sooner or later. It's the way our cruel, mean world is... Look, I'm really sorry this happened to you... but keep your head up... Keep living. We all need you to be tough right now, I know we're asking for a lot, but if you want to survive you're gonna have to suck it up. We've all had to. You do your part, we'll do ours, and get you outta here. I promise.""

As he talked to her, one could notice something different in Collat's scratchy, worn voice. A warmness through his harsh words. Something... good. A bit of kindness? A dash of hope? Maybe... maybe just a little brotherly love? No... that wasn't in Collat's nature, not at all. Perhaps he just wanted to get going...

Sniffling a few more times, Cinnamon finally managed to get her tears under control and stumbled to her hooves. She was unsteady and threatening to burst into tears again at a moment, but she managed to upright herself with Jasmine's help. She leaned on the pegasus for a little while then took a few shaky steps away, turning to face Collateral.

"I-I'm ok... I think... Thank you...Both of you." The filly paced towards the end of the wagon, leaning on Collateral for support as she passed. "I t-think I can do it..." She hopped down to the dirt and stubled, but didn't fall. Turning towards the rest of the group, however, the young earth pony made a fatal mistake: she looked at the bodies. Cinnamon froze in place, tears welling up again as she caught sight of one still form in particular.

"DADDY! NO!" Wailing, Cinnamon galloped to the corpse as fast as her little legs could carry her and threw herself across the chest of the dead pony, fresh sobs wracking her body. "No, Daddy, please no! Answer me Daddy! Daddy! no no no no no!" The poor filly's father lay in a puddle of dried blood, his throat torn out by a ghoul. Compared to the rest of the caravan, his death had been merciful. Some of the bodies were in so many pieces they were unrecognizable. He was quite clearly dead, an expression of intense agony locked upon his face, but his daughter didn't seem to care. She lay across his cold, unmoving chest and sobbed, shaking him and calling out as if to wake him, chanting her denial over and over. It was to no avail, however, as Cinnamon's father was now just one of the countless lives lost to the heartless wasteland.

Jasmine ran over and attempted to pry Cinnamon off of her fathers corpse. The filly was reduced to hysterics at the sight of her fathers corpse. Jasmine tried her best to block the view of the corpse while holding onto the filly which proved to be difficult.

    "Thinnamon, Thinnamon!"

Jasmine finally forcefully removed Cinnamon from the Area and held onto the Child. As Jasmine hugged her, her lip began to tremble as she found her breaking point. Watching a foal observe her father's corpse brought her to tears. Jasmine held onto the frightened filly, squeezing her tighter in her hug. All she could do was rock the filly gently in her arms as she tried to calm the filly.

Sanctity felt his heart wrench in his chest as he heard the squeal and rapid fire string of denial from Cinamon. He knew what that felt like, the crushing weight of loss and despair. It probably felt like the world was over to cinnamon. And, unless they got out of here soon, it probably would be. It'd take a mare of iron to hug your fathers corpse and not come out of it without something breaking inside you, and Cinamon did not seem like a mare of iron, more a mare of fluff. But, at the same time, he couldn't bring himself to tear her away forcibly. To do so just felt wrong. He sighed lightly and left the room, sitting by the entrance and leaning agAinst the wooden walls as he closed his eyes and tried to block it out.

Crackle slung his new grenade rifle with a sigh and flapped over to the distraught filly as she was being comforted by Jasmine. He really didn't know how to console Cinnamon, so he decided to use the same approach that he had taken himself after the loss of his own family: revenge. Landing beside the pair, Crackle walked over and rested a talon on the filly's back.

"Hey, listen... I know it's hard to loose everything you know, and I bet you're really scared of us right now, but I need you to trust us. We can help you get back at the...'Monsters'... that did this. It won't bring your family back, but it will make you feel better. Would you like that? Do you want to make sure the gh-er, the monsters don't hurt anyone else?"

Collateral Damage watched her scream and cry over the loss of her father. He couldn't relate to this, as he had never known either of his parents. All he could do was watch her, a tired grimace on his face, hoping she could soldier through such a hard event in her life.

"Crackle, we need to get her out of here. Now. This isn't the place for her, and we've got a job to do."

"Give her a moment everypony, she jutht lotht her family..." Jasmine's gaze traveled down to the filly as her hug tightened around her.

"I know that we can't have her crying, but thith ith all new to her. Motht of uth have had time to adjutht to our own tragedieth..."

Jasmine leaned in close to the filly and tried to speak softly. Jas had only been out of the vault for a few months at most, and though she didn't have as much experience as most of the others in this cruel world, she did understand the grieving process and intended to try to help the filly.

"Thinnamon, they're jutht trying to help keep you thafe. It'th ok to cry, but we need you to keep moving with uth. How about thith, you can ride on my back if you're not feeling up to it..." Jasmine continued stroking the foals mane as she added, "And pluth you and I can talk along the way!:

Jackpot waited with Sanctity, remaining quiet. Although he didn't show it, his heart went out to the filly. He knew that loosing everything you've ever considered home and family was rough. However, after all the years roaming the wasteland experiencing the horrors and hardships that entails firsthand, death had lost its sense of mystery to him. After being exposed to it so much, his heart had hardened. In the end, it doesn't matter who you were, how you died, who loved or hated you, or what you had done in life. You were still dead, just another rotting pile of meat spread across the dirt...

Stepping back and leaving the Cinnamon to Jasmine, Crackle turned to Collateral. "You're right, it isn't. We don't really have much choice, though. One of us would have to go with her if we were to get her out of here. I can't, as I gave my word that I would clear out the ghouls as soon as possible. You might be able to, but in the time it would take, we will have moved on and the chances of you finding the group again are slim. Plus, we need you on overwatch. Those ghouls could come from anywhere. Sanctity would take even longer and have even less chance of finding his way back. Jasmine is injured already and probably shouldn't be out on her own either, not to mention there's even less of a chance of her finding us again. I don't thust jackpot yet, and even if I did, well, I'm sure you can see the obvious problem. There's no way I'm letting Deus escort her either after that display with the wagon. We're stuck with her, for better or for worse." He paused for a moment, thinking. "I bet she could save us a lot of time, too, if she could tell us which way the ghouls came from." He looked back over at the filly as Jasmine concluded her second speech. "Hey kid... If you tell us where the, um, 'monsters' came from, we'll go and make sure they don't get anypony else, ok?'

Cinnamon wailed and clutched Jasmine for several minutes. She didn't look up as crackle delivered his speech, but eventually the grief-ridden cries dwindled to the dry heaves of someone who has suffered enough anguish that there simply isn't anything left. She looks up at crackle with a blank stare before finally pointing slightly west of their original heading. She doesn't release Jasmine from the hug, clutching the sun-toned pegasus tightly. "Th-thank you..." her voice is barely audible, just a whisper on the wind.

Crackle did have a point. They didn't have to many options at the moment, but the last thing Collateral wanted was for her to be in the middle of combat, and live the nightmare all over again.
She'll just have to deal with it.

Collat nodded. "Hm... understood." After watching Cinnamon point out a little to the west, he spoke back up. "I could fly up ahead, scout out the area and come back. We need a gauge on what we're dealing with before we actually deal with it, a battle plan, last time it didn't go so smoothly. Recon is my specialty, after all."

Crackle nodded to Collat. "Do it. Be careful, though. I doubt ghouls are the only nasty thing lurking around these parts. I'll be up there, too. Spread out so we cover the most area possible. We need to find where these fuckers are hiding. Don't go too far, though. we might need your sharpshooter skills in a hurry. Jasmine!" he turned and looked over to where the mare was still holding the filly. "You're going to have to carry Cinnamon, I think. We need to get a move on." He hesitated, then gave the normally cheerful pegasus his best attempt at a comforting nod. It probaly wasn't very good, though, as Crackle had never been able to easily express himself without some liquor in him...

He turned and walked back to where the unicorn and undead diamond dog were waiting. "Sanctity, you look like you know the wasteland pretty well. Once we get onto some softer terrain, do you think you could track the ghouls back to wherever they came from? And what about you, Dog? is that undead nose still good enough to pick up a scent trail?"

Jasmine hugged the filly tight and tried to help her feel more safe, if that was even possible from what she just experienced. The filly sobbed in her arms as the orange pegasus tried to be there for her in any way possible. Her ears coninually perked and turned in the direction of the many noises they were encountering. Her own injury left her very cautious of her surroundings, and with a filly in her arms it caused her to be even more so. As the filly said thank you, Jasmine tried her best to smile and tightened her hug slightly.

"You're welcome thweetheart" Jasmine whispered back to the filly.

At Crackle's request, Jasmine nodded and helped the filly up. "Ok Crackle, jutht one thecond." Jasmine placed a hoof on Cinnamon's shoulder and nelt down to her eye level. "Let'th get you on my back little one..." After a bit of awkward adjustments Jasmine managed to place the filly on her back. This seemingly normal task was slightly difficult for her for the fact that she never carried nor had she ever been carried on the back of another pony. She turned her head back on cinnamon and looked over the foal making sure she was settled in. Due to Jasmine's own difficulty with the task, she accidently bumped Cinnamon into her bad wing on occasion, wincing from the pain.

"Ok Thinnie Thinnamon, let'th get going!"

Jasmine cantered up to Crackles side, her stride appeared to be a bit slower from the extra weight. Jasmine's eyes caught crackle as she huffed slightly.
"I got the trooper right here. She'th pretty shaken up, but she'th doing great..." Jasmine looked back at the tiny filly and gave her a soft smile. Satisfied that Cinnamon was secure, Jasmine turned back to Crackle and spoke in a low whisper.

"Crackle, when it cometh to killing the ghoulth... I think that I'm going to thtick back from the group. I know that I'm hired for thith, but my prioritieth have shifted. I can't put her in danger again, or at leatht in clothe range with them. She'th jutht been through tho much, pluth I'm not sure how thafe I could keep her mid battle... Ethpethially with my hurt wing: I can't jutht fly her out of danger. What would you think if I could provide cover fire for you?" Jasmine tried to read Crackle's expression as she spoke with him. Crackle was nice enough of a griffin, but this was a job, and she's here for a purpose.

I'm jutht not going to allow any harm to befall her, thith ith one foal thothe bathtardth aren't going to get tho long ath I can help it..."

Sanctity smiled lightly at that, proud that he gave off that image. He the nodded and got to his feet as he put away his gun, bringing out one of the empty clips he'd thrown aside earlier and feeding rounds back into it as he spoke.

"If our Dog friend can point me in the right direction, I'm pretty sure I can keep their tracks." he said, placing the clip back into his bag and drawing out the second, half full one and began recharging that as he looked around for any indication of where the ghouls'd come from [Survival 45]

Crackle pointed in the direction Collat took off in. "The filly said they came from that direction. Lets head in that general direction for now and see if we can pick up their trail once we hit softer terrain. Me and Collateral will be in the air, keeping our eyes... well, just eye in his case... out for any sign of them." With that, he spread his wings and flapped up, circling over the group a bit higher than collateral, on overwatch rather than scouting.

Collateral circled on ahead of the group. He scoured the area, but nothing seemed amiss. However, off in the distance, there was a faint plume of dust rising, heading towards the caravan. He recognised it as a sign of a wagon or a group of ponies moving across the dry wasteland dirt. At this distane, it was impossible to tell who was making it or how many there were. It seemed Crackle had been correct in his assumption that they would attract attention, though.

Back down on the earth, Sanctity could only make out a few faint traces. The earth was hard and barren here, leaving only occasional traces. If not for Cinnamon pointing them in the right direction, it would have been impossible to follow. However, he did find something else interesting. Apparently one of the guards had fled as the caravan had been overrun. He had made it a decent distance before the ghouls caught up. There wasn't much left but bones and gore, but on the dirt nearby was a rather nice hat that caught Sanctity's eye.

Deus had been watching the group for some time now, and she decided she would do something. It was time to gather minions. Or at least play with the little ponies she was traveling with. She had already chosen the one that seemed most interesting to her, or at least most fun. She grinned slightly to herself, her teeth visible for one rare time to anyone who may have been watching, though no one was. No one ever was.

Deus' expression returned to it's unnaturally blank natural state, and she crept up to the group. She stopped by Sanctity and stared at him as he went about his task.

Sanctity smiled as he walked past the corpse, picking the hat from it nonchalantly and placing it on his own head without a second horn, managing to wear it on the back of his head as he looked at he ground. With a little bit of shade, he could see better, felt like the tracks were easier to follow. That was helpful.

The unicorn staring at him. Not so much. He shuffled around to let her have a look at the tracks, thinking for a moment that she might be a hunter, but as she continued to watch him, he realised that wasn't what she was doing. "Uh, can I help you, missy?"

He turned back to the group, the hat looking a little jaunty as it started to slide of it's position before his horn glowed softly and he held it in place. "I got the trail folks." he said, before pointing in the direction the tracks were heading "They went thatt'away" he said, mimicking something he'd heard on the radio once. After that, he sunk hi head down again and continued following the hoofprints as best he could.

Deus slithered around and walked beside him very close. Close enough that he could feel her corpse-like cold. She didn't care much about these tracks, or this filly. Children irked her, for no particular reason. She was interested in this colt though. The blood in his hair and guilt in his eyes was enough to pique her morbid fascination. And possibly instigate her torturing instincts.
