Lord of the Foals Empty Lord of the Foals

Post by Starry Night Fri May 04, 2012 2:55 pm

This is the synopsis. Our characters will be adventuring to Stable 113 from Stableton on a mission to salvage the tech that had been left behind during the evacuation. This will take place some time after the events in Battle of Stableton, in which the new mayor will recognize the necessity of higher tech for Stableton's survival.

I don't want to spoil the story too much, but when we arrive at Stable 113, we will realize that there are many who survived the disaster that erupted a year ago who never left the Stable. The Stable door will then close on us, trapping us inside. We will be forced to try and escape using minimal force, since we don't want to kill the ponies we grew up with, and while also trying to help the ponies we've lived with for all of our lives.

I was not taking recruitment into heavy consideration when I had conceived of this plot, but it occurred to me throughout it's development that a character with a stable background will have significantly more invested in this plot than a character born in the wastes. Because this is the first thread involving our stable, it is the best chance a stable pony has to expand upon their backstory, and because a stable pony might have significantly more invested in the outcome of this thread, preferential recruitment will be given to those players that have a stable pony background. I apologize to everyone who has a wasteland-born character, and I hope you understand why this is being done.

If you are interested in joining, please reply to this saying you are interested. If your character comes from the stable, please include information regarding your character, such as how popular they were in the stable, how were they regarded by the majority of the stable(somepony famous? infamous? often ignored?), what their profession was in the stable, who their parents and siblings and friends are(they may appear in the thread! Please include whether or not any of them are confirmed casualties of the violence.), what all of their jobs were, and what sort of valuable possessions you left behind in the stable, memorable events in the stable, as well as any other information you believe may be relevant. I will use this information in my designing of the stable and it's residents, so this is all very important stuff.

This thread is will not have a large focus on combat. The majority of it will depend upon non-combat skills such as sneak, persuade, science, repair, lockpick, etc.

Lord of the Foals Empty Re: Lord of the Foals

Post by Starry Night Fri May 04, 2012 3:32 pm

Starry Night will be participating in this thread. She was a very eccentric character, who's personality and mannerisms didn't allow her to make many friends. She was considered to be 'one of the weird ones' and a bit of a troublemaker by other vault residents. She had a large comic book collection, and she had managed to procure a large share of the stable's comic books through bartering with other residents.

She was assigned the role of maintaining the stable's computer software. Whenever a stable computer encountered a bug or a software error, she was sent to try and repair it. She job sent her all around the stable, since there were computers in practically every room, but the majority of her time was spent down on the engineering/maintenance level, where all of the computers which regulated the stable's life-support systems were located. The job exposed her to almost all of the stable's residents, and while she tried to be friendly, she was often ignored as best as possible due to the social stigma against her, and how annoying she could be.

Starry's mother was Midnight Dancer, who was a higher-class sort of pony who worked as a dancer and entertainer(not THAT kind of dancer! She was a classy mare!) She stayed in the stable, and managed to survive the initial violence.

Her father was a very scientific individual, who heavily shaped Starry's interests and frame of mind. He was always supporting Starry's more eccentric and quirky behaviors. His name was Colt Johnson. He worked as a doctor, but always working on some other sort of crazy scientific experiment. He escaped the Stable, but never arrived in Stableton.

One memorable event in Starry's life in the Stable was her 11th birthday. She had invited all of the colts and fillies to participate(this includes your character, if you would like) to what was a fairly normal birthday party, but had ended prematurely when the Starry sliced the cake that she had booby-trapped with cherry bombs. Everypony in the party was covered in cake, save Starry, who although was closest to the explosion, had the foresight to duck and cover. The event was the featured story in the following day's radio report.

There will be one or two spots reserved for non-stable dwellers, as a means of contributing to a diverse group dynamic. So if you aren't a stable dweller, you've still got a shot!

Post by Ashen Coat Fri May 04, 2012 5:20 pm

As I said before, I’m interested in getting Ashen in on this...Hmm....if he does get in, I think I’ll finally sit down and finish writing down that backstory thing I started for him...may help...Hmm...Anyway.

Ashen Coat was a technician in the stable, in charge of fixing up everything and such. Because of that, he had a pretty good idea of where everything was in the stable, even the places and corners not everypony knew about. He was quite the prodigy, known for his skill with machines of all types, which contributed to him getting his position at a young age.

What less ponies knew about was his own...vigilante pranking activities against the bullies of the stable. Along with his best, and only true, friend Blazing Mane, the two would strike back against the ponies that would abuse others, and were very successful. They became fairly well-known among the younger stable populations, mostly from the ponies they’d save, but not many adults were aware of them, due to the two being careful about not getting caught. The two even had a secret hideout, a unused room in the back of the stable, with a door that could only be opened with a signal from Ashen or Blaze’s pipbucks.

Ashen didn’t have many actual friends, only Blaze really. Although because of his vigilantism, many of the younger ponies did know about him. As far as family goes, he had no siblings, and his mother died when he was 16. He also had a grandfather that died a few years earlier than that, one that was a well-known technician in his day. He was proud to see his grandson follow in his hoofsteps before he died. He was also close to Red Cross, Blaze’s uncle, and the pony who would start the rumor about psychotic drugs that would soon tear apart the stable.

When the stable went to tartarus, Ashen had to kill Blaze, as well as nearly 20 other ponies that he knew that went insane on his way out. His father, his only living relative, was never seen exiting the stable. He’s either dead, or still in there.

    stable pony? im in

    Basic history here:

Sky grew up in the vault, fair amount of friends. But really Most time was spent alone or out and about in the stable, since her parents weren't really that interested in her that much when she growing up. Sure being foal was good but over the years they lost interest in her, not even complementing her when she got security duty. As if she wasn't anything to her, So once she moved out and got her own room. She cut off and down right ignored them most of the time, but Being her parents she still tried to talk to them when she bored. There was one stable pony who actually ever gave a dam about Sky, a green colored earth pony named Gear. A nice stallion who Sky had grown up with in her youth, a friend she always had stuff to do with. even was her first coltfriend in the stable, something which she has forgotten in the wastes.

during the stable madness, Sky was cut off by...(lucky guess) her parents, they were tainted by the madness or drug or genetics. Sky didn't care they were both crazy, and they attacked her. Left with no other choice she shot them both, missing a few shots, due to the shaking of shooting her own parents. but managed to kill both of them, She hugged there lifeless bodys. But soon heard the stable door opened to let out the ponies who weren't crazy and let out the ponies before everypony was dead. Sky had no choice, she left their lifeless bodies in a pool of blood. Her coltfriend Gear, she had no idea where he was. She thought he made it out with the first waves of ponies leaving, until she didn't see him with the group of ponies. her heart broke apart, she couldn't go back. the doors could be shut, he could dead, she didn't know. She left with the group to Luna knows where, vowing she will return back to the stable to find Gear.

long story short, Sky going to to see if Gear is still alive or not, and she breakdown a little because she killed her parents.

Lord of the Foals Empty Re: Lord of the Foals

Post by Lightning Flash Fri May 04, 2012 6:49 pm

I would like to join this. Lightning has a high amount of skill in sneak. His only other two strong skills is guns and flight (which will obviously be useless). He also has a fairly high strength level.
    ------

Lightning was born to two loving pegasus parents in Stable 113. His father was named Soarmeister, Soar for short. His mother was named [] They both cared for Lightning dearly. The blue pegasus always got along well with both his mother and his father. A little more so with his father as they shared similar interests such as flying.

Lightning's mother, Sundance, was a yellow coated mare with a brown mane. She was smaller than a normal pony but still had a heart of gold. She worked as a doctor in the Stable, always helping others when she can. She also taught Lightning to help others and like his father, taught him the basics of right and wrong. She always believed family was the most important thing next to friends and she never believes in abandoning a pony, whether they be friends or family. Ever.

Light's father, Soarmeister, was a little stronger than the average pegasus. His coat was blue, just like Lightning, but his mane was more of a yellow-ish orange. Soarmeister worked with Pipbucks as his occupation when he lived in the Stable. Unlike his mother, Soarmeister tended to be more understanding of Lightning's love for flight and speed. Still, he was a strict parent, pounding morals into Light. He had high expectations for him, some which the pegasus failed to achieve.

As Lightning grew up, he began to learn how to repair and maintain the equipment that was used around the stable such as Pipbucks like his father. However, he always found the work boring and whenever he could, he snuck out of class and worked on flying instead. His mother never approved of him skipping these classes but his father, despite agreeing with his mother on the issue, understood that Lightning probably had a dream that was other than what the stable had to offer.

Sadly, the blue pegasus was not always the most popular and he was a victim of bullying. At times, Lightning would retaliate physically. This is when his parents taught him the most important lesson that he still holds and would most likely hold for the rest of his life. The lesson of not using violence unless he truly has too. If there was one thing Lightning would remember his parents with, it would be that.

As the stable slowly went crazy, Lightning would try his hardest to convince his parents to come with him but to his surprise, they refused. After thinking about the situation for a long time, he made one of the most difficult decisions in his life. He left without his parents. To this day, he does not know what happened to his parents after he left and continues to carry the guilt that maybe if he stayed, he could have gotten his parents to come out with him.

(May edit later for more details.)

Post by Bakewell Tart Fri May 04, 2012 8:26 pm

I'm interested. Bakewell doesn’t have much in the way of abilities, but her high Strength score would make her helpful for anything requiring physical labor, such as moving heavy objects or carrying gear. She has a middle ground survival skill as well, for whatever that might be worth inside a stable. Also she can buck stuff pretty good if combat happens.

    ---

Back in the stable, Bakewell Fondant Tart was anything but a good pony. She was a bully and a troublemaker to the core and often used her superior physical prowess to get what she wanted. She cared little for others and was extremely spoiled. She was quick to anger and constantly got into fights. The stable’s general opinion of her was, understandably, quite poor. Shortly after leaving the stable something caused Bakewell to undergo a massive personality change. She would possibly be the pony most emotionally invested in ensuring a happy outcome for both the Stable and Stableton ponies.

Bakewell unenthusiastically worked with food preparation. She performed the job simply because she had little to no choice in the matter, not out of love for her gift. The most enjoyment she ever got out of the job were the rare occasions when she got away with using her role to pick on certain ponies in stereotypical ways involving cherry bombs.

Bakewell only had one pony in the stable that she considered to be a friend, and that was a pegasus mare known as Cream Cheese. Cream had many friends and managed to be relatively liked in the stable despite often assisting (and masterminding) Bakewell’s acts against the fellow stable ponies. It is likely that Cream felt sorry for Bakewell and only stuck beside the thuggish earth pony because she could see a light somewhere in the darkness and knew that nobody else would consider befriending the lost pastry marked pony. Cream Cheese was one of the ponies who went insane and Bakewell ended up killing the pegasus with her bare hooves while escaping. Since the stable escape Bakewell has slowly started becoming closetly obsessed with Cream Cheese and anything to do with her former pegasus friend.

Bakewell doesn’t know if her parents are alive or dead, but does know that neither of them made it to Stableton.

Blueberry Tart, Her father, was a kind, geeky, unmuscular, and slightly socially awkward earth pony with a white coat and blue mane. He was a heavily dedicated pipbuck technician. He and Bakewell never really got along well, and Bakewell often bullied him despite their age differences and family relation. Bakewell backing her own father into a corner was reportedly considered quite a depressing sight.

Her mother, Cherry Tart (birth name Cherry Crumble) was a large-boned earth mare with a red coat and dirt-brown mane. Bakewell probably has her mother to thank for her physical abilities. Bakewell’s mother had a caring heart and showered Bakewell with rarely returned love and praise. She held a job in food preparation and worked with her unwilling daughter. Bakewell’s mother was an idealistic pony who believed that there was some good in everyponies heart.

Bakewell and Ashen seemed to instantly recognize each other on sight, and it has been suggested in OOC discussion that the two were in a state of conflict within the stable (Bakewell and Cream being hurrdurrwhichwaydidhegogeorge bullies, and Ashen and Blaze often targeting the two with pranks.) If Ashen is okay with it this would mean that Bakewell has at least a slight knowledge of Blaze (though she would not know he was dead) and likely vice versa.

Bakewell has taken to considering most memories involving Cream Cheese as precious, though there are few events involving the whole stable that she is fond of remembering. This is mostly because she was a huge jerk in all of them.

(I might edit this later to make it not a sin against grammar and also to add more details.)

Lord of the Foals Empty Re: Lord of the Foals

Post by Cross Roads Fri May 04, 2012 8:47 pm

Cross Roads, full name, Crossopher Augustus Roads, Was born in tenpony tower and worked often with his dad who was a major figure in caravan and tower security, often times he would accompany him through the wastes and so he didn't spend his whole locked up in the tower.

Later after he lost his dad to a raider attack, he returned to Tenpony Tower and his mother introduced him to the Twilight Society, he was usually the go-to unicorn whenever the society confirmed records of items of interest, but Cross got fed up with hunting for so much, for so little use, once catergorized, they were locked away, nopony even saying when they could use them.

So he left, and he traveled about on his own, trying to recover artifacts for himself so he can find a way to make things better.

Lately he found out about Surgeon General, the leader of a vicious group of chemed up slavers, but still a decently competent leader. Once accepted as one of them. Cross secretly released Starry so the town could prepared, and once Cross could guarantee that less Stableton ponies would be killed he rewrote the General's plan.

After that situation, Cross became troubled, it wasn't unusual for him to help other ponies, he was always used to them calling him pompous and narcissistic, but even though he saved them, he just couldn't deal with the fact that maybe they might actually accept him.

Learning about remnants of Stable 113, Cross chose to pursue a course there in order to uncover more Arcanic Techonology but he is unsure whether to just brave it alone, or tag along with other ponies (which is more likely to end up with him getting hurt)

Cross's focus is point-blank magic, melee, and explosives,
    an intense close-quarters assault specialist

Post by Scrap Parts Fri May 04, 2012 9:29 pm

Scrap Parts wasn't born in the stable, his parents were travelers that sold parts to make a living. They were both killed by raiders near Stableton and a couple of the settlers took him to Stableton. Eventually he left Stableton stealing a pipbuck and heading out into the wastes.

He wandered into New Appleoosa and kicked around there for a while until returning to Stableton for Starry's party and the Battle that followed afterword.

After the battle was over Scrap returned to Stableton after enough time for his wounds to heal.

Most of the friends Scrap has made during his time in the wastes came from the stable so when Scrap heard that many of them were going to be returning to their stable he wanted to go with them, mainly,to learn more about his friends but also to possibly snag some of the technology from the vault.

Lord of the Foals Empty Re: Lord of the Foals

Post by Kestrel Sat May 05, 2012 11:49 am

I guess I will throw my two cents in on this one as well. Here goes nothing...

    ------
Kestrel is a quiet cold individual that was born and raised outside the peaceful confines of the Stables. His whole life has been spent wandering the wastes just trying to survive.

His mother, was a quiet yet kind individual. She was one of the stranger looking gryphons around, her body having far more fur than it did feathers. Her plumage and fur carried a light cream/off-white color, speckled every now and then with black or brown; think of a peregrine falcon. She often sung Kes to sleep when he was just a hatchling.

His father was a prime example of a Talon company Merc. Quiet, calm, harsh, and built like a tank. He had a thing for whiskey, though he never drank enough to get drunk. He also happens to the one that taught Kes most of what he knows about marksmanship, fighting, and survival. He always had this thing where he talked about some place known as the 'Old Empire' ,(Will possibly be an RP in the future), and how much better it was than Equestria is now.

Life was good for Kes, if a bit harsh and uncomfortable at times. He had thought it would stay that way, but he was very very wrong. The day that Kestrel turned 10 years old, all hell broke loose.

Kes and his family was captured by Red-Eye slavers and thus began the downturn in Kestrels life. Along the way to Fillydelphia his mother died, the details are not something to discuss at this point in time, so only his father and himself made it to the town.

From 10-29 years of age, Kes lived, fought, and worked himself to the brink of death everyday in the hellish confines of Fillydeplphia's streets and factories and he even fought a few times in the Pit.

This is what turned what was once a quiet, confused, even scared little gryphon into what Kes is today: A cold, indifferent, logical predator who can kill and brutalize without a single shred of hesitation, mercy, or remorse.

    -----
Kes is strong, fast, tough, and very intelligent. His primary focus is sneaking and long distance combat, but hand him a shotgun or some other close quarters weapon and he will be able to do just as much damage.

Interestingly enough Kes prefers to sneak around enemies without killing them when he can, if you ask him about it he will explain that he does not enjoy killing, he's just very good at it. Its just an action to him, a means to an end.

Also, while no expert in the field Kestrel is pretty good at repairing things. Living alone in the wastes, and working in Filly can help one pick up such skills.

Lord of the Foals Empty Re: Lord of the Foals

Post by Shutter Fri May 25, 2012 2:45 am

Okay, finally making a post here, after weeks of 'Eh, i'll do it later'.
    ---------------
Shutter was born in the Stable. He was born early, and combined with complications in the process, his Mother not only died in the process, but he was very weak, especially for an Earth Pony.

As he grew up, Shutter was a frequent target of the bullies in the stable, due to his slightly underdeveloped muscles and small size. It was these encounters that started him learning how to move about the stable unseen, which over time, he became quite good at.

Shutter's father was a tailor, who spent nearly all his time mending holes and tears in Stable jumpsuits, to avoid the stable having to replace too many. While a good pony at heart, he could be a little dull-witted and unobservant. It was thanks to that that he assumed Shutter was simply antisocial when he avoided any of the other children, and that all he needed was a good social hobby to start making some friends. This lead to Shutter obtaining his original camera, and soon after, earning his cutie mark.

When the events that would lead to the Stable's downfall began to occur, Shutter wasn't one of the first to flee...he had been working on the latest issue of his newsletter during the time of the events, locked in his workroom, and by the time he discovered what was going on, he had little time left. Unable to go and find out what happened to his father, Shutter abandoned his camera on his desk, and used his skills at stealth to evade the psychotic Stable Dwellers, eventually making it to the stable doors to escape with the rest fo the surviving Stable Dwellers. He was forced to assume his father was killed, and mourned him, along with the other fallen, with the rest of the survivors.
    ------------------

Shutter's main skills are Stealth, Speech, and Energy weaponry...he's not very strong though, so he's pretty terrible in close-quarters combat.

Alright folks! We've entered Stage 2 of the planning process. Lord of the Foals has been taken off the back burner, and I'm working on the plot specifics at this very moment. More details later, but if you haven't already, please provide the information I asked for in the OP. It may play into the plot, in a very significant way.

    I'll give it a shot...

Twisted is a natural Speaker by nature, having talked her way out of several sticky situations before. Being a Priestess she has learned that helping ponies is first priority, with all other solutions as a last resort. She hardly ever resorts to Violence, and will show compassion for ponies who show it in return.

Despite being a Religious Zealot she will not go out of her way to convert other ponies and will only do so if a moment arises and she feels it is safe to try. She does not pester and prod, nor does she go around uselessly ranting about the Testaments of Discord, for she knows this is the first way to make people run away.

She has a Gentle touch and a soft voice most times but if she needs to she is capable of becoming intimidating but even so Violence is only used in a means to defend herself, unless severely pushed and even then it takes a lot of pushing.

She would act as aid and help anyone she can. She will wear her armor as she usually does because she feels that hiding something and having people find out later, is worse then them finding out immediately, so they do not feel lied too.

Lord of the Foals Empty Re: Lord of the Foals

Arc's family was alway part of the technical corps that took care of Stable's life support systems, keeping it in existence. It was not very glamorous job, the fruits of it never seen to the larger public of the Stable, but in the end rewarding to those who cared that the stable is having air to breathe, food to eat and water to drink.

Still, this did not prevent Arc's parents from dying during accidental coolant leak, killing them both almost instantly and leving Arc without any siblings or other family members to lead him through life. During the small ceremony before his parent's burial in the incinerator, Arc decided that it was technology's fault that he's now so alone, and this enemy is the only thing he has left in his life. He decided to face this foe directly, and joined the night maintenace shift responsible for keeping the energy supply running, job well suited for loners like him. During those lone days he had lot of time to read, and one of the few books he actually managed to like was the Hoof Life trilogy, several books pondering on philosophy and pony's life and various textbooks on physics. Rumor was that these were the only exemplars of those books left after the war, being printed days before the end of days of the Old world.

And as for the final days of the Stable, Arc was detained for several days alone in one outlying parts of the engineering levels of the stable, fixing a broken auxiliary energy convertor, and was therefore spared of the worst. After hiding for few days, he sneaked out of the stable, only stopping in his quarters to pick up suit left after his father, which was later lost during the events of Stable H2O.
