    ==Personality==

    A medium-built zebra from the far-off and mysterious zebra lands, an often smiling and confident visage belies a generally cautious and wary nature. She can be aloof and whimsical at times and come across as inscrutable or cryptic. She will often appear to be secretive, in particular with regard to her alchemical and cultural knowledge. She doesn't have any 'taboo' topics and is generally happy to talk about any manner of subject, although she often struggles to understand sarcasm and there are still cultural gaps for her to learn about.

    She strives to be like her mother and fill a mentor style of role, which can cause her to talk down to ponies at times.

    Zestari will slip back into rhyming dialogue when she's under pressure, surprised or nervous, an unfortunate side effect from having been raised in zebra lands and having learned Equestrian subsequently.

    Zestari is no pacifist, however she does not enjoy violence, and often times will seek to avoid it. Whilst she wouldn’t consider herself cowardly, she is a firm believer in discretion being the better part of valour. An initiate in zebra martial arts, she can hold her own against the common raider in close combat, but doesn’t have the ability to go against more capable foes. She also has an affection for fire.


    ==History==

    Zestari’s tribe is from the zebra lands: a wide expanse of sweeping steppes and savannahs interspersed with deep radioactive water-filled canyons and springs, and with a few mountain ranges.

    When the bombs fell, unlike many Equestrians, the zebras on the whole were ill-prepared for sheltering from the subsequent radiation and destruction that resulted, and relatively few survived. Those that did were the fortunate ones, most hidden within a massive underground military headquarters carved into the base and side of a mountain. The thick stone walls and bomb-proof bulkheads protected the zebras within and would go on to serve as a makeshift stable for the population for decades.

    A couple of generations ago, however, the great bulkheads were opened and the denizens once again rejoined the shattered world. They began to eke out a tough lifestyle in the now excessively dangerous plains and formed a tight-knit community. It is this settlement that Zestari is from.

    Zestari was born to as ordinary parents as could be expected in the post-apocalyptic wastelands. Her mother, Xinijaa was a shaman, well versed in mixing, combining and creating all manner of magical poultices, creams and potions. Her father was a stout zebra caravan trader who wandered the wider savannahs dealing primarily in old pre-war relics and artefacts. She loved them both dearly and they her.

    Xinijaa taught Zestari from a young age how to create the complex alchemical brews of her people and her father, Jiyamba, taught her all about the wonderful artefacts he would return with in between his journeys. It was from her father and his rare texts that Zestari learned the foreign language of Equestria. Whilst alchemy was her first and greatest love in life, it wasn’t her only one – Zestari also found herself with a special affinity for fire.

    Zestari had always had a fascination with fire. To many zebras, this wasn’t unusual: fire was seen as a useful tool in managing the environment around them and had much symbolism with renewal and purification. With such tacit tribal approval, her experimentation continued and she grew to understand and manipulate fire better and understand its purpose in the post apocalyptic world.

    Where fire was concerned, Zestari determined that fire was a purifying influence and with it she might cleanse the ills of the wasteland. Where raiders and horrible monsters are concerned, she believes that she must burn away the corruption and illness so that something new and pure might grow in its place. To her, fire is a rejuvenator.

    As Zestari grew into a rebellious teenager, she would often leave the relative safety of the settlement on the sly to explore the wasteland around her, or to cause firestorms, and her concerned parents quickly went and enrolled her in the tutelage of the tribe’s martial arts master. They did this both as a safety precaution and in the hope that the teachings would calm her more adventurous tendencies. This worked for a time, but she would always pine for the rush of those fleeting moments exploring and adventuring outside the walls, and experimenting with her passion for fire.

    This calm and peaceful existence, only interrupted by the occasional horrifying monster lurking amongst the steppes, was shattered when her father was late in returning from a regular route, and when he did make it back, was missing his saddlebags and was mortally wounded. Zestari and her mother, Xinijaa, spent the next few hours beside him in tears as he slowly passed on.

    The funeral pyre was a hurried and sombre affair in which Zestari was more interested in reclaiming her father’s lost property than in remaining in mourning with her mother. So with hurried preparations and a dangerous lack of planning, she snuck out in the middle of the night, heading to where her father was most likely ambushed.

    It took her three months to reclaim her father’s saddlebags, three months in which she met the most interesting wasteland zebras and had many wonderful experiences. She even once met a pony!

    She tracked her father’s saddlebags, firstly from the group of raiders that had ambushed him: they had ditched the bags when they discovered they were filled with ‘junk’. The bags were later found by a pair of travellers who then sold the bags and their contents to a bored merchant for only a hoof-full of caps. The bags had then been gifted to a zebra elder due to their fine construction, who still had them when Zestari finally came upon him. The elder was more than happy to give them up once Zestari told him the story of their origin.

    Upon returning to her settlement, where she was warmly received, she only remained for a few weeks. Her previous adventure made her stir-crazy as she idled in the settlement; she wanted to meet new creatures, experience new places. Taking down Jiyamba’s saddlebags, she prepared to leave the comfort of home.

    After saying her farewells, she set out on a year-long journey towards Equestria to learn, trade, and befriend those she’d meet.

    Now she nervously approaches Stableton, a new settlement near the outskirts of a former pony city called Fillydelphia. The next step in her journey was about to begin.

    She quickly made friends in Stableton and moved in with a mare who owned a house in the town. Initially only planned to be temporary, she hasn’t moved out yet.

    Balance --- Due to their more fluid and flexible movement, Zebras are capable of fighting on either four hooves or two. They can wield rifles and heavy(?) weapons without requiring a battle saddle.

    Alchemy --- Zebras are capable of using the Alchemy skill, which replaces their survival skill(?!).
