Cold. Brutal. Pragmatic. These are just some of the ways to describe the Gryphon known as Kestrel. A highly skilled predator, Kestrel combines his skills as a sniper, his gift at sneaking, and various unarmed combat techniques to lethal effect. Add in his own natural predatory instincts, sharp mind, powerful build, high endurance, and lightning fast reflexes and it comes as no surprise that Kestrel can be considered among the most lethal individuals that roam the Equestrian Wasteland.
Kestrel is well known as a quiet natured individual. He rarely speaks unless absolutely necessary, and even then he answers or responds with curt, gruff statements. Talk means nothing to Kestrel, if you want him to believe you, prove yourself to him with your actions; it's really the only way to get him to even begin to respect you.
A master of self control, Kes approaches everything with a cool head and a steady hand. Never wavering, flinching, or hesitating. This detachment combined with his pragmatic nature allow him to use brutal if not outright terrifying tactics to get the job done. If the situation calls for Kes to break an individual's leg, rip off a wing, gouge out an eye, or hamstring a leg, he will do it. And he will sleep just fine afterwards.
It is these qualities alone that give him a rather bad reputation. But all of this however pales in comparison to his one major, and rather unsettling, hobby. You see Kestrel has a penchant for collecting things. Most the the objects are harmless, simple baubles and trinkets picked up from various ruins and such, but others...others are far more stomach churning.
Teeth, claws, bones, feathers, scales, and even skulls, all taken from the bodies of select victims and other such grim trophies can be found amongst his collection; the centerpiece of which is an large mask shaped like a gryphon skull which Kestrel wears almost constantly. Why he collects things, where the mask he wears actually came from, and why he wears it are total mysteries.
Mysteries that may one day be given light, or may be forever hidden in the shadows.
==History==
Little is known about Kestrel's full back-story, seeing as how he does not like to talk about it much. What is known is that he was born near the borders of Everfree into a family that could not take care of him. Near the time of his 10th birthday, during yet another desperate search for food in some ruins, he and his parents were captured by a group of slavers and taken to Fillydelphia.
Upon reaching Fillydelphia, Kes as some call him, and his father were put to work in the factories; his mother just seems to vanish. Years of hard labor on the factory floor and the occasional brutal round of combat in The Pit, eventually, paid off. He had earned a reputation as being one of the most talented, and merciless, fighters in the Arena; his father earning a similar rep.
Recently, Kestrel and a group of friends went back to Fillydelphia to save Kes' father. The trip was surprisingly easy, apparently the gods of the wastes watching over the group and letting them escape after dealing a blow to Red-Eye's forces. With help they were able to escape, Kestrel almost losing his life at the last possible moment, and then move on with their lives.
With his father saved, Kestrel is currently wandering about looking for something more in life. A reason to keep going. He is having to rush however, as behind the doors of Stableton's Tavern/Inn Kestrel's father is fading fast. The big black griffon is afraid that maybe this time, his strength won't be enough to save the last little shard of his past he had.
That this time, he's going to loose his one final shot at normalcy.
