    As Starry began to sing, Zestari's face slowly changed from passive enjoyment into one of abject horror, and she scooted her chair back a bit in a vain hope to protect her ears. Starry seemed to be a wonderful host but her singing could probably do with some work, the zebra concluded as Starry ended the song on an ear shattering note.

    She watched as another zebra approached the griffon she had sat near and a dragon (she resolved to stay away from the dragon) and offered drinks. She made a mental note to talk to the zebra at some point and find out the story on why he was in Stableton.

    Deciding that she should probably make an effort to socialise, she scanned the room for someone to talk to. She spotted a blue pegasus with a lightning bolt on his flank. He looked a little lost and Zestari hadn't met him before, so drawing a breath and a little courage, apporached him.

    "Hello blue pegasus pony, my name is Zestari, and who might you be?" She smiled at the stallion.

    Techno looked around the party, seeing other ponies socializing. He decided to join in on the party, seeing as Starry would probably drag him into something weird if he didn't. He took a look around the party to see who wasn't currently talking. It seemed as if the ponies were flocking around the griffin, who looked more like a statue than a guest. He saw a grey unicorn standing near a purple one, who wasn't really talking to him.

    He walked up to Scrap Parts and started talking. "Hey there. Name's Techno, what's yours?"

    Hearing Techno introduce himself he turned around and responded "Nice to meet you Techno, my name is Scrap Parts but you can just call me Scrap. So what do you think of the party?"

    Lightning's ears perked up when a zebra, of all things, walking up to him. Feeling suspicious of the zebra (but then again, he was suspicious of everypony he didn't know) but wanting to be polite, he smiled back in return and said, "Hello, Zestari. I'm Lightning Flash, Lightning for short." Curiously, he wondered if this zebra used to live in the stable because he never seemed to meet her before. "It's certainly a pleasure to meet you. Did you use to live in the stable, Zestari? I don't recall seeing you around before."

    Faithheart looked back over as Kestrel when the Zebra disappeared, taking no heed to his warning about the drink Strange pony... Then again Zebras tend to be a little strange she said still trying to make friends with him. It was getting to a point where she looked kinda down. She was hoping that the only other no equine would talk to her.

    Sighing she started to get up I'll just leave you alone and talk to some other people I guess She said putting her stuff into her saddle bags.

    Starry looked around at the party. She wasn't smiling. Not because she was sad, but because she was a little lost. She hadn't expected this many ponies to show up. In all actuality, she had expected nopony to show up, and had planned to jump up on stage and sing to herself before spiking the punch and drinking herself to sleep.

    'At least nopony is causing any trouble' she thought to herself. She looked back at the table where Kestrel and Faithheart were sitting, the one she had just trotted away from after scolding Athanix.

    There wasn't much conversation going on there, so Starry took it upon herself to trot back, and liven things up a bit.

    "Hi there!" Starry said, as she approached the Faithheart and Kestrel, "How are you two enjoying the party?"

    Kes watched silently as Faith began to walk away before turning back and locking gazes with Blue again. She was wondering how Kes was enjoying the party? Kes would tell her. His reply came in the form of a short nod and a curt statement.

    "S'nice."

    As previously stated Kes was not really here for the party or the caps. He had shown up mostly just to relax and rest his weary muscles after a long days walk.

    In other words he was not really focused on having fun, or socializing.

    Not that he would talk more if he actually was here to meet folks. Kes was a gryphon of few words and always had been. So his lack of speech was not out of a need to be rude, it was simply his nature.

    Shutter gave a sigh, as he watched the festivities. It was times like this that made him wish that he still had his camera...
    As he watched the guests mingle, he stayed to his quiet corner, not willing to talk too much with such a large gathering. He much preferred smaller crowds of close friends...or just smaller crowds in general.

    I wonder how many guests here are actually here for the party, and not the caps...

    He mumbled inside his head as he surveyed the community center...it was quite a mix of faces, and it made it hard to pick out any real familiar friends that he knew.

    "Same here on about it being the best and only party Ive ever been to." Scrap said with a small chuckle.

    "I'd be lying if I said I didn't originally come here for the caps, but it's been fun. Glad I came though and not just because of the caps. So..why did you come? Friend of Starry or you originally come for the caps too?"

    Starry grinned widely, she had apparently taken the phrase 's'nice,' to mean 'it's wonderful!'. Starry quickly pulled up a seat, and leaned in to speak to him. "Well, I'm glad you're enjoying it! It get's better, though!"

    Starry pulled a grenade out of her pocket, and held it close between Kes's face and hers. "Just watch!" she exclaimed, as she yanked off the pin with her teeth. Her eyes lit up as she stared straight into Kestrels', waiting to see how he reacted when the grenade burst.

    Techno looked back at Starry, who pulled a pin on a grenade in front of the griffon's face. He turned back to Scrap, putting up a small shield between them and Starry, just in case. "To tell the truth, I would have come to her birthday party even if it costed caps. We've been on a few ventures together, so you could call us friends." he explained. "She's a bit of an explosives nut, as you can see by that probably live grenade she just pulled the pin on o'er there." he said, nodding his head in the general direction of Starry and Kes.

    "Hmm..If going on ventures together automatically made people friends then Kes over there..." Scrap pointed to the griffon whom Starry pulled the grenade on. "...would be my best friend. Starry seems like a nice pony, hope we could become friends."

    "Oh no, I'm not from your horrifying stable." She smiled, "I'm from far away in the zebralands." she pointed into the distance with a hoof. "I've been staying in stableton getting some rest and seeing what I can do to help around the place." She looked around the room, "I wasn't technically invited here, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to experience such a unique event and starry didn't seem to mind me being here."

    She turned back to the pegasus, "What do you do to make a living around here?"

    Techno gave a glance over in Kes's direction. "Doesn't seem like the warmest fellow, eh?" he said, seeing how he was responding to the many introductions being asked of him. "So, where are you comin' from? Or are you another one of these sardines fresh from the tin?" he said, referring to the stable opened about a year ago near the back of stableton.

    Kestrel's reaction to having a grenade activated in his face was one that was not at all peaceful or pretty, in fact it was a reaction more suited to combat. The bird's battle honed instincts ordered his body to do one thing and one thing only at that moment in time.

    Move.

    With a twist of his torso and mighty push of his powerful back legs Kes pushed off the ground and lept flying over a nearby table. Upon landing he had to tuck into a rather rough looking roll to dissipate his momentum, but he was able to do so.

    At the end of it all Kes was back on his feet, cold eyes locked directly onto Starry's own. His features revealed no emotions, but the tenseness of his front and back legs truly did show that he was ready to fight if need be.

    The grenade burst, with the sound of a kazoo where there should be the sound of an explosion. From within the grenade flew out a handful of bright, colorful confetti, which floated gently down toward the floor, spread across a radius of several feet.

    Starry couldn't help but burst up laughing, as bits of confetti settled in her mane and smacked against her face and glasses. "Heehee, hahaha! You should've seen the look on your face! It was, it was, so serious! Bwahaha!" Starry fell over on her back, and kicked her hooves in an uncontrollable fit of laughter.

    If he were one to show his emotions Kes would have frowned at this...party grenade. While an innocent item in and of itself it was foolish to detonate such things in peoples faces.

    Especially if that person had seen the effects live grenades had on ponies, like Kes had.

    Eventually the ol' gryphon settled down though, his form relaxing slightly, and he returned to his seat next to Faith and Starry. He mumbled something inaudible to pony ears then set about watching the others again.

    Violet Star had her eyes closed as she hummed the song Starry sung, walking around with a lollipop from the snack table in her mouth. How she avoided hitting anyone or anything with her eyes closed like that was anypony’s guess. She stopped however when she heard someone talk to her, her ears perking as she turned towards ‘Scrap Parts’. She opened her eyes, revealing her dimly glowing silver irises. A smile was on her face as she sucked on the lolipop.

    “Violet Star! But you can call me Violet.” she replied “Nice to meet’cha!” The lollipop shifted in her mouth. She looked like she was going to say something else, but was distracted by the sound of a kazoo as Starry’s ‘Party Grenade’ went off, scaring the hell out of that griffon. Her grin took on a wide and toothy look. “Oooooooh! Those look like fun! I wonder if Starry would be willing to part with a few...”

    Lightning had heard stories here and there about the lands where the zebras lived. But he had never met anypony that actually lived there before. The blue stallion couldn't help but laugh a little about her brief description about the stable, "Horrifying, yes. It was not a pleasant, that's for sure."

    As Lightning peered around the room, he nodded toward Zestari and said, "A party is pretty unique nowadays. I can't recall the last time I had a party. In fact, I can't recall the last time I've even been to a party except for today. I guess that's what happens when one has to watch his tail all the time." When the zebra asked what he did for a living, that made him pause before smiling slightly, "I used to work as a guard here. Just patrolling Stableton. But now, I think I spent enough time here. I'm working on leaving and searching the wasteland. I told myself that I would visit here of course...but..." His voice trailed away as if he didn't fully understand his reason for wanting to leave but somehow felt it was necessary.

    Faithheart stopped when Starry, the host started talking to them. She waited for Kestrel to answer before saying anything herself, noticing that he still wasn't really saying anything. Was something bothering him? Did he not like talking? Maybe she could get him to talk. If she failed though she maybe seen as a loser but what did she care? If she didn't try where was anything gonna go?

    She shook her head as if coming back from a day dream before smiling at starry [color-pink]Ah yes the party is quite entertaining. Being none equines though we may seem a little intimidating to everyone else, just a thought however. I'm sure we can figure something out though[/color] She said laying back down around the table. She waited to see what the Blue unicorn would do before she said anything.

    However she was dreadfully surprised when suddenly a grenade was placed in Kestrels face, and in nature her own being not five feet away and quickly got up with such power her real claws dug grooves into the floor and she covered her face with her wings. Hearing the grenade pop and the sound of the kazoo she looked to see the grenade had turned into a bout of confetti before growling at starry, who was laughing on the ground.

    That was not funny in the least. Shoving a grenade into the face of someone who obviously spends a large amount of time in the wastelands fighting could end up deadly for many people. A better warning should have been issued at least She growled ominously. People playing with explosives in the wasteland was a sure fire way to be killed.

    "Oh, don't be such a party-pooper!" Starry told Faithheart, dismissing the warning about the party grenade entirely, "It's all in good fun."

    Starry checked her pipbuck, the clock was getting dangerously close to the party face over the 12:00 marker again. "I really should have planned these events farther out," Starry said to herself, "We don't have long until our first game."

    Starry shook the thought out of her mind. There was still plenty of time left for socializing. "So, what did you say your name was?"

    Sky stayed quiet, standing in a corner like no one noticed her. Sky sighed, and pulled from her saddle bags a Apple cider whiskey. and began to sip from the bottle, tasting the flavor of the drink. "Did someone say game?" Sky said out loud.

    "I actually got no idea where I'm from, parents wandered all over, though I did live here for about a year. You?" Scrap replied before he heard the violet unicorn that he had tried to talk to earlier respond to him.

    Quickly turning to face her before Techno responded he said "Nice to meet you too Violet. I was just talking to Techno over here, why don't you come join us?"

    The mentioning of games did not fill Kestrel with the warm fuzzy feeling of happiness. If anything the big gryphon was suspicious of the details of the games.

    Sure the invitation had detailed them most seemingly harmless at face value, but the whole party grenade incident had not helped to improve Kes's opinion of the hostess of this little get together in the least.

    Like always the tight-beaked gryphon kept that little tidbit of info to himself.
